Cruz Bay Cottage is one of the last of the lovely traditional West Indian cottages on St. John. It is located on a quiet little hill above Cruz Bay, within easy walking distance of the town, enjoying a birds eye view of the harbor and St. Thomas with it’s dazzling lights against the night sky. It is truly special and romantic as well as convenient and extremely affordable since it is not necessary to rent a car to have access to groceries, great restaurants and public transportation to the National Park beaches from Cruz Bay as well as the bus to Coral Bay. Many people choose to rent a car to explore all of St. John’s wonders at their leisure and there is a parking pad at Cruz Bay Cottage for a rental vehicle. Even though it is close enough to town to walk it is on the quiet side and enjoys relaxing views of the night sky from the verandah in a peaceful and safe location. The owners call this property, “Grassy Hill” and own a few other private residences in the area. The manager lives near by on the property but the cottage enjoys complete privacy and is a little house all on its’ own. This property has been completely renovated with all new furnishings and wonderful artistic touches; all the amenities and creature comforts for dining, relaxing and sleeping in comfort.
There is air conditioning if desired but the cottage is airy and cool enough if you prefer not to use it. The bedroom has a brand new Queen size Heavenly bed, reading lights, fresh new linens, a closet and étagère – the bathroom has been renovated with all new fixtures and tile – it has a shower, full length and magnifying mirror, shelves for your toiletries and a generous supply of new linens. The cottage has a fully stocked kitchen with stove, fridge, brand new dish ware, pots and pans for fine dining inside or out on the verandah overlooking Pillsbury Sound and Cruz Bay Harbor. The living room has a comfy new sofa, chairs, table, TV and reading lamps. West Indian plantation shutters and ceiling fans keep things breezy and comfortable while adding a classic note of island charm.
The owners have lived on the island for over four decades and take great pride in the restoration and maintenance of one of the islands’ last representations of the vernacular architecture that once dotted the island of St. John and the Caribbean. These traditional cottages that once graced the landscape with their picturesque charm still symbolize the easy, environmentally sound lifestyle of a bygone era. Now fully restored and refreshed you can enjoy this romantic little cottage, formerly called Yellowbirds’ Nest.
